Navigating Nature:

What Business Growth Has in Common with the Great Outdoors

In both business and the wild, success depends on understanding the landscape, charting the path, and staying resilient when conditions change.

Just as every ecosystem has its unique terrain, different industries come with distinct challenges. Hawes Group helps map the ‘landscape’—knowing regulatory climates, competitive pressures, and opportunity zones—so businesses can move forward with clarity and confidence.

From Climb to Summit: Active Ventures and Realized Value

A successful hike isn’t just about the climb—it’s about the view from the top. Hawes Group pairs active solutions with proven expertise to help firms scale and achieve lasting impact. This is the distinction between active assets (enterprises still scaling) and realized assets (those that have been nurtured to exit or maturity). The journey—from cautious startup to proven success—is where value truly emerges.

From 1933 to Tomorrow: Building Businesses That Last

The Hawes Group has served clients and the community since as far back as 1933 through its family of companies, which include active companies: Titanium Legal, VoizTrail, RoboDX, and previously included realized companies: Professional Credit, Ensource and HealthFirst Financial.

In a world drowning in data complexity—from unpredictable file formats to evolving API standards—businesses need more than just traditional ETL (Extract, Transform, Load).

For regulated industries, the question is no longer whether to implement speech analytics, but how fast can a company integrate it into their compliance strategy.

Legal innovation is transforming how documents are served, tracked, and reported—streamlining a critical step in the justice system while staying compliant.

Joseph Hawes

Founder / Past CEO of Hawes Group

About
Hawes Group

Joe was founder and owner of Hawes Group, a management company that oversees several businesses offering specialized software and solution options for the accounts receivable industry. Joe got his start in business working for the family enterprise, Professional Credit Services (PCS), owned by his mother and late stepfather, Jinx and Ray Klein. As a teenager, he learned the business from the ground up, and began work as a collector after graduating from college.

His focus, determination, education, and ability to successfully network resulted in his quickly taking over the management reins. He was in large part responsible for the massive growth of PCS, which became, and still is today, one of the largest collection agencies in the Pacific Northwest.

Over the years, he founded and grew multiple businesses, including Health First Financial (AccessOne), Hero Business Services (Ensource), KG Hawes, McKenzie Credit Group, and Hawes Ventures real estate. In recent years, Joe delved into real estate investment, including developing safe housing for adults in recovery, while also supporting start-up businesses throughout the Northwest.

Joe was a man with big ideas and the drive to make them happen. To work colleagues and employees, Joe was a passionate, altruistic, and visionary leader. To those he invested in, Joe was a benevolent and involved mentor. He was a huge supporter of students and fledgling entrepreneurs.

Joe believed in giving back to his community. He supported causes that reflected his values through donations and sponsorship of fundraising events. Among these were St. John’s Foundation (PeaceHealth), Evergreen Health Foundation, Samaritan Foundation, Boys & Girls Club, St. Charles Foundation, Eugene YMCA, Volunteers in Medicine (VIM), Food for Lane County, and the Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon.

Today, Joe’s legacy continues through his son, Max Hawes, who now serves as CEO of Hawes Group. Max brings a new energy and forward-looking vision, while carrying the dream he and his father built together during the years they worked side by side. In honoring his father’s entrepreneurial spirit and values, Max is guiding the company into its next chapter of growth and innovation.
